SL Story (1): Let’s Play with Elementary School Students

Studi Lapangan (Field Study, SL) is one of subject in the Department of Biology that have purpose to train students doing small scale of basic biology research. The subject is taken by 3rd year student. This year of SL conducted at Ujung Kulon National Park (UKNP) on 25-28 July 2016 and supported by Bank Mandiri and Balai Taman Nasional Ujung Kulon (BTNUK).

The UKNP where located in Pandeglang, Banten is one of Indonesia national park known as the last home of Javan Rhino. In addition, the border of rain forest at UKNP is the beach, so that there will be special character of its land and or aquatic organisms. The uniqueness of its characteristics enough to the Department to choose UKNP as place of SL.

Taken place in a junior school at Tamanjaya, this year of SL has started (26/07). Dr. Puji Rianti S.Si. M.Si., Mafrikhul Muttaqin M.Si., and students visited the school to do small research and counseling to it student. The research was related to human biology of children. The counseling was done by fun activities, such as playing board game, watching video, and child games. These activities aims to introduce the student environmental issues and health.

Headmaster of the school, Subandi, said that the visit was important to school since it was a rare occasion the school received visit from university. The visit also gave the student a new experience related to environmental and health science, he added. He have a hope that the visit will be continuing in the future.

In other place, students, accompanied by faculty members and BTNUK official guides, explored the national park to do some research. The team visit UKNP rainforest, beaches, and villages around the national park.
