This year symposium were held at the Seminar House, Kyoto University, Kyoto prefecture, Japan. It was a semester event to getting together and updating works in primate and life science from around the world. Two of our Department of Biology staffs attend the event, Dr. BAMBANG SURYOBROTO and Dr. PUJI RIANTI. In this occasion, Dr. Bambang Suryobroto shared an update on wildlife research and conservation in Indonesia, while Dr. Puji Rianti shared an update about the conservation genetic study on Sumatran orangutans. Besides primates, the symposium also discussed the conservation status of the wildlife-river dolphin, promoted by the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazonia (INPA), Brazil and elephants by  conservation status. This symposium were attended by tens of graduate students and postdocs as well as professor from Kyoto University, Japan; Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia; University of Kent, UK; Cambridge University, UK; Oxford University, UK; Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, US; Indian Institute of Science; Patna University, India; Genetics and Forensic Laboratory, Kenya Wildlife Service; Sun Yat-sen University; The Chinese Academy of Science; Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France; Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazonia (INPA), Brazil; University Sains Malaysia; University Malaysia Sabah; WWF Malaysia. The fruitful discussion between these parties generated the 2^th core to core CCT-BIO International research collaboration on tropical biodiversity and conservation, period 2017-2022.

As an excurtion from the symposium, Dr. Bambang Suryobroto having a field trip to a field museum in Yakushima while Dr. Puji Rianti goes to Inuyama, Aichi prefecture to continuing a preliminary research collaboration with Dr. Hiroo Imai in Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology, Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University.
