Seminar Nasional dan Workshop Perlebahan 2017

The 2017 National Seminar and Workshop on Bees held by Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Asosiasi Perlebahan Indonesia (API), Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) – Republik Indonesia (RI) on 19/08/2017.  In the event that attended by hundreds of participant, Prof Dr. Anas Miftah Fauzi (IPB Vice Rector of Research and Collaboration) said that Indonesia needs 3.600 - 4.000 ton of honey bees each year at the seminar opening speech. “It’s a challenge for us to fulfill the needs”, he added. Dr. Tri Atmowidi M.Si., the committee head, said that the aim of the event, that is the first Indonesian seminar on bees, is to build and expand the network of bee researcher, student, association, and government to nourishing bee research and its application in Indonesia. In addition to Prof Anas and Dr. Tri, Ir Junaidi MM, Kementerian Perindustrian RI, hope that the event will provide benefits to bee farmers.

The event consists of speaker session, presentation session, poster session, and workshop. The speaker is the expert from some organization, i.e., James S. Hutagalung (API), Prof Ali Agus DAA (Gadjah Mada University), Prof Dr. Damayanti Buchori (Perhimpunan Entomologi Indonesia), Dr. Ir. Rika Raffiudin M.Si. (IPB), Prof Dr. Siti Salmah (Andalas University), Dr. Muhammad Sahlan (Universitas Indonesia), and Drs Suratmono MP (Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan RI). The presentation and poster session consist of three main themes, i.e., Biological Behavior and Ecology, Cultivation and Application, and Physiology and Health. The workshop provides the participant bee farming practice knowledge through a direct experience.

In addition, there was a signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) about Indonesian bee between IPB, KLHK, and API. About the signing, Dr. Apik Karyana (KLHK) said that the collaboration hopefully will increase the national income from bee farm sector.
