The antibiotic resistance, gene editing, stem cells, and human cloning are some of the warmest biological issues in the world these days. The support of molecular-omics techniques and the detection of new molecules makes biological sciences and branches grow rapidly. Studying biology is said to be a key in the face of medical, agricultural, even economic problems. Learning biology is like preparing for a new world that will continue to change.
Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University has 7 qualified study programs in the form of Bachelor Degree in Biology Study Program, 3 Master Study Programs, and 3 Doctoral Study Programs. The seventh study program that got accreditation A from the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) is managed professionally one of them was proved by Dr. Iman Rusmana achievement as the Most Outstanding Head of Study Program in Indonesia (2016).
With the vision of the Department of Biology is to become the leading institution of tropical biosciences studies that can be a central reference for students, researchers, institutions and community at the national and international level, the Department of Biology has been cooperating with various institutions outside and within the country.

Since 2017, Department of Biology has opened an International Class entitled the International Class in Tropical Biology. When opened, the International Class is immediately in demand and followed by several students from Europe and Asia.
Bachelor Degree in Biology Study Program (PS BIO) was opened since 1982. With a long history, PS BIO has transformed into a leading Biology Study Program in Indonesia. In addition to obtaining Accreditation A from BAN-PT, PS BIO has also been internationally certified as ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN QA) in 2017. To improve the quality of academic services, since 2016 BIO has been certified SNI ISO 9001:2008 which has been updated with SNI ISO 9001:2015.
PS BIO is supported by 47 faculty members, 9 of whom are Professors, graduates from leading universities from within the country, USA, Japan, Germany, France, Australia and the UK. This makes PS BIO has a wealth of faculty biodiversity that brings a positive impact on scientific development, future collaboration, and leading research.
Curriculum of PS BIO is designed comprehensively and matured to produce qualified graduates of Biology graduates who able to compete in the world of research, work, and entrepreneurship. Based on the results of the tracer study in 2017, the graduates of BIO have succeeded, especially in various national and multinational companies (R & D, QC, QA; 39%), educational institutions (teachers, lecturers; 21%), and government institutions in field of research or conservation (11%). In addition to working graduates, as much as 10% of BIO graduates choose to continue their studies in Indonesia or abroad and 2% of graduates have been successful in their entrepreneurship.
