M. Eka Prastya is a graduate student from Study Program of Microbiology, Department of Biology IPB supervised by Prof. Dr. Aris Tri Wahyudi M.Si., Dr. Rika Indri Astuti S.Si. M.Si. and Dr. Irmanida Batubara, M.Si. He is one of the students that join part in research collaboration program in Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan for six months from December, 4th 2017 until May, 23th 2018. The collaboration program was supported by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristek-Dikti) Indonesia through PMDSU-PKPI (Peningkatan Kualitas Publikasi Ilmiah) scholarship program and part of a collaboration between Department of Biology and NAIST. In the program, he will have been conducting some activities including research experiments, discussion, scientific writing etc.
Eka is supervised by Prof. Hiroshi Takagi, Ph.D. of the laboratory of Applied Stress Microbiology, Graduate School of Biological Science, NAIST. Prof. Takagi is a Japanese scientist who focuses on applied molecular microbiology especially to understand microbial cell functions in depth, analyze and improve various functions and mechanisms of microorganisms including yeasts and bacteria from molecular, metabolic and cellular aspects. Under his supervision, Eka will have been analyzing anti-aging mechanism/pathways of a bioctive compound from sponge-associated bacteria in fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe as a model organism (in vivo) through transcriptomic and proteomic approach. Besides doing some experiments, he also attends on scientific journal group discussion that is held once a week. From this program, he hope that he can get some experiences including direct learning from Takagi-sensei, Japanese research atmosphere, and to gain some experimental data as part of his scientific publication and dissertation.
