Dr. Ence Darmo Jaya Supena as Seminar Keynote Speaker in Salatiga

Dr. Ir. Ence Darmo Jaya Supena, M.Si, Division of Plant Physiology and Genetics, Department of Biology, became one of the speakers at the National Seminar on Biology and Biology Education on 20/1/2018. This event was held in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology of Satya Wacana Christian University (SWCU) in collaboration with the Indonesian Society of Biology. The event, entitled "Research, Application, and Learning of Biology in Facing the 21st Century Challenge", was attended by dozens of students, lecturers, teachers and educational observers.

Dr. Elizabeth Betty Elok Kristiani, M. Si., Chairman of the committee, said that the purpose of this activity is to facilitate the exchange of scientific information in the field of biology and biology education in order to face challenges in the 21st century. This activity lasts for one day with the main activity agenda in the form of a seminar and parallel presentation session.

Dr. Ence, who is also chairman of the Indonesian Society of Biology (PBI), was the keynote speaker of the seminar with Indra Charismadji, a 21st Century Education Practitioner. During the seminar session, Dr. Ence explains how basic biological research activities are still a minor priority over applied research in Indonesia. According to him, basic research should continue to be done with the direction of reaching opportunities for the development and application of science and other biological technologies. Meanwhile, Indra Charismadji explained about the national education system in Indonesia, curriculum development, and technology literacy direction for students to face global competition.​
