Department of Biology, IPB Starts Tourism UKICIS Research 2023-2026 in the Belitung Island

The series of research activities by the UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdiciplinary Sciences (UKICIS) by the Department of Biology, FMIPA, IPB University began with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD), which was held on 13 January 2023 in the morning with the Belitung Regency Government at the La Lucia Hotel, Tanjungpandan and in the afternoon with the Regency Government East Belitung at the Guest Hotel, Manggar. The FGD aimed to discuss the tourism research activities that will be carried out.

On this occasion, the two local governments attended by the Regent of Belitung, Regent of East Belitung, and district government officials committed to support the implementation of research activities. This UKICIS research activity will be carried out for a period of 3 years in the Belitung Islands. The research theme is The Sustainable and Integrated Tourism based on Biological Resources. This group's research received funding from the LPDP of the Republic of Indonesia through the Rispro-UKICIS scheme.

More than 30 researchers consisting of professors, lecturers, research assistants from the Department of Biology, FMIPA, IPB University, ITB and UI have arrived and started research in various locations in the Belitung Islands. They are divided into 7 research groups based on their respective sub-themes. The annual output of this series of research activities is expected to be able to produce scientific studies in the form of biological data, scientific publication, recommendations and other concrete outputs such as a biodiversity-based tourism calendar, organic fertilizer formulations from tourism waste, info graphics on biodiversity and its potential in several tourist destinations, as well as Ethnobiology information of Belitung Island.
