On Thursday, March 31^th, a stadium general held at Ruang Kuliah RD.02 Sekolah Pascasarjana IPB. In this occassion, Muhammad Arief Budiman Ph.D. spoke about "Genomic: Manfaat dan Masa Depan Pengembangannya". He is an Indonesian citizen scientists who working at Orion Genomic USA. In his speak, he is sharing his experience about molecular markers on the cancer. In addition of molecular markers, he also speak about the application of methyl groups on the reading of plant genes, especially related to the discovery of oil palm shell gene that is economically profitable at oil palm industry. Moreover, he also introduce the latest technology in genomics-based research, such as, MAS (Marker Assisted Selection / Breeding), GWAS (Genome- Assisted Selection / Breeding, transgenic technologies such as RNAi, TILLING, and genome editing techniques CRISPR / Cas.

The event successfully held because of a collaboration work between Study Program Plant Biology Sekolah Pascasarjana IPB, Direktorat Riset dan Inovasi IPB, Sekolah Pascasarjana IPB, Perhimpunan Bioteknologi Pertanian Indonesia, and Indonesian Biotechnology Information Centre. In addition of Plant Biology  students, a lot of graduate students of the Departemen and other participated the event.
