Guest Lecture: Mushroom in the Bottle

Dr. Jong In-Choi is one of Mushroom Research Institute scientist in South Korea. The institute is said as the only national mushroom research institute in South Korea. In the institute that located on Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Dr. Choi conduct his research activity in the field of mushroom breeding in order to get the prospective mushroom strain.
Dr. Choi explains this information in the guest lecture event of Department of Biology (02/04/2018) in the Reading Room. In addition to his research focus, he also explains the institute activities, including the various way to cultivate the mushroom, mushroom breeding and cultivation research, clinical potential, until packaging process. He said that the institute has been developed some cultivation techniques for specific mushroom, for instance, wood log cultivation for Lentinula edolis, bed cultivation for Agaricus bisporus, and bottle cultivation for Pleurotus ostreatus.
"It is my pleasure that I inform you that we are also conducting the research of the potential of Indonesian kapok seeds as a mushroom growth substrate," Dr. Choi said it in addition to the detail process of mushroom bottle cultivation.
At the end of lecture session, Prof. Dr. Ir. Lisdar A. Manaf (Lisdar I. Sudirman) of Mycology Division gave a souvenir to Dr. Choi as a token of appreciation. She hopes that the lecture will broaden mushroom cultivation technology for the graduate students of Microbiology and other participants attended the lecture.
